Day 15, June 15th

Joh 8:1-12 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. (2) Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. (3) The scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, (4) they *said to Him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. (5) "Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?" (6) They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. (7) But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." (8) Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. (9) When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. (10) Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?" (11) She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."] (12) Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

  1. Hi Guys,

For the first time in a couple of weeks I'm taking time to actually write a few emails and here on the blog. I appreciate your efforts and hope to follow more closely during the second half of the challenge.

Last week our family ate at a local fast food restaurant and I was able to ask the man who took our order if we could pray for him. He was taken aback a little but after a little bit to ponder said sure he would like that. He thanked me and we went to our table. The next day we went back in to eat, and when I asked again to pray for him he eagerly agreed and said it made his day when we prayed for him. He later came up to me and asked if I went to church locally and I explained about MercyHill and he told me he desired to come next time we met. It encouraged all our family. It wasa great bonus that he is a middle eastern man! Please pray for M. as we follow up with him over the next few weeks.

  2. Bro Steve, Great to have you join us!

I had another conversation today with my old college friend, Lisa. Man, she is really asking me some deep questions. Today she said she would love to know that one day she would die and be in heaven, in eternal peace, but how can anyone know for sure? She said she says it is great that I have this faith in God, but does that really save me, isn't it just a comfort from the bible?- she says. She said how could there be a perfect Savior when the world is so messed up? How could God be perfect when everyone else is so imprefect? So....I just began to press more scripture with her. I first went to 1John 5:13 with her. I told her that I know 100% that I will go to heaven one day. I told her that "these things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God" I told her this is how I know for sure. I told her that I love talking to her about the gospel. That I need to hear the very gospel that I bring up with her, that I need to hear it every day. She also said she does not think this Christ could be perfect. I gave her 2Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew NO SIN to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." I also directed her to Genesis again and the fall of man. I gave her the gospel again today, the Lord has been gracious to me with Lisa. We have had some wonderful talks and I just keep giving her the gospel, I have not discussed her lifestyle with her. She keeps asking me if I think she will go to hell because of her lifestyle. I told her she will not go to hell if she repents of her sin and puts her faith in the perfect savior who lived perfectly, died, was buried and rose again. I told her we all deserve hell "but God, who is rich in mercy because of His great love in which he loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ, for it is by grace you have been saved".

  3. Today I engaged five people at five separate times and each encounter was unique. One was an Atheist, one just lost a loved one to cancer, one was a critic, one attended church regularly and the last one had never been to church. 1 Peter 3: 15 states that we are to give the reason for the hope that we have. The reason I have hope is because Jesus walked out of that tomb 2,000 years ago.

Whether you’re talking to an Atheist, or someone who is suffering, or a critic, or someone who is churched, or someone who has never attended church the question and the answer are the same; the question is how a sinner can be reconciled to a Holy God and the answer is by the blood and righteousness of Jesus.

    In Him,

    Jimmy

  4. Bro. Jimmy,
What a great passage of scripture. I love how Jesus reached out to that woman and met her in the midst of her shame. She was uncovered and exposed, she was ashamed no doubt, I would imagine she could not even lift her head or eyes because of her shame. We have no record of her pleading her defense, she was exposed, uncovered and disgraced. In the midst of all that shame because of her guilt we see the Creator initiate a relationship with her - what mercy and grace. God help us to be active in the ministry of reconciliation.
