Day 12, June 12th

How do many people answer the question I posted yesterday; "why do you believe Christianity is true?" Do they argue from a point of historic truth or does their argument focus on their personal transformation/personal experience. There is only one good argument for why we believe what we believe and that argument is the historic fact that Jesus rose from the dead. If we appeal to our "personal testimony" that is arguing truth from a subjective point of view; who can really question your personal testimony. I'm not suggesting that we don't have a personal experience and if you are a believer you have certainly been transformed. My point is this; the only reason to believe in a religion is that the religion is true. Seems simple right? That's because it is, I believe Christianity is true because I believe in the rock solid historic fact that 2,000 years ago a Jewish Rabbi named Jesus lived a perfect life, died a substitutionary sacrificial death, was buried and 3 days later rose again. Amen!

  1. Hello Everyone,

I'm on vacation with my family; we are at Big Cedar Lodge in MO. We are having a great time swimming, boating, tubing and relaxing. We went shopping today at the Big Cedar gift store to buy t-shirts and hats. When I was paying for our items I shared the Gospel with the lady working the cash register. I asked if she knew of any good churches in town, she explained that she worked on Sunday’s and could not attend church. I shared with her what I look for in a church (one that preaches the Gospel) and I explained the Gospel to her, she seemed to agree with me.
Looking forward to reading your posts later – we are off to the lazy river.

  2. Jimmy, I love your post on the historic truth claims of Christianity.
I was able to go to Walgreens today. God was so gracious to me and Jenni, my partner in crime. She had an in-grown nail so we had to go to the doc, then to Walgreens to get the stuff for her nail. We had to wait a LONG time so I purposed the time to point people to Christ. The young man helping us was named Ryan. I sat and waited and just asked him if he went to Jenks HS. He said "yesand why do you ask?" I told him he looked familiar and that my husband was a teacher there at the HS. He said he went to JHS thru 10th grade then his family moved to Utah. My next question was "are you a Mormon?" He said yes. So then I asked him if he would go to heaven when he dies. He said very directly "well, not now!" I asked why not,he said he moved back here to get away from his devoted mormon family and he drinks a lot. He said his family is "super" mormon, whatever that means. So I probed a bit more and asked him lots of questions about the Mormon faith. He answered, very nice. He then said he had some serious issues with the mormons. I then went on to tell him the differences I knew about between Mormons and Christians, he agreed. I gave him the gospel then. I talked to him about Christ atonement for sinners like him and like me. He listened inbetween customers. It was really great. Then I sat down to wait for my stuff, another lady was sitting next to me, her name was Carrie. I asked her what she thought it took to go to heaven because i heard her talking to her boys about the grace of God. She said you MUST believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. We had a great visit about Christ and she said she goes to Gutts church.
I got back up to the counter and pointed Ryan to Christ one more time. I told Him that any religion that adds anything to Christ's work is not a true religion. The only truth is in the cross, that Jesus lived without sin, died for our sins and rose again on the third day. I invited him to Mercy Hill church because he said he had not been to church in 3 years. He said I will pass on that. But, I will visit Ryan again at Walgreens, the Lord willing.

  3. I spoke with a fellow who works at one of the QTs in town, and asked him if he went to church anywhere in the area. He told me that he had just moved to Owasso and intended to begin attending a particular new church here that is like the one he attended in Tulsa. I began to challenge him on the need to be sure of a saving relationship with Jesus Christ--the only ONE WHO ever died in the place of sinners and rose from the dead three days later. He assured me that his hope was in Jesus and then I noticed that the line was getting quite long behind me-so I got out of the way.
